Author’s note: Well since you all seem to have Birthdays around the same days, you’re all going to kill me, ;]. But I have to say it is always fun for me to write and I find that it is a pleasure to write birthday fic, because it lasts so much longer then virtual gifts. I just hope you like it. But anyway Happy Birthday carlyisnot. I hope you have a happy and fantastic day.
Rating: pg-15, Swearing like a sailor on leave… ;]
Summary: Emily finds someone she hasn’t seen in 11 years. A different world from Criminal Minds as we know it, besides Emily/JJ being together I have changed a bit to fit the story but it is all in good fun so please don’t hate or sue me for it I own none of the characters, show, etc.
Disclaimer: Not mine, the song and characters belong to someone else. But you all can thank carlyisnot for the inspiration and for being born on May 3. Oh and major angst, as requested so I hope you all can handle it. ;] Oh and self beta, again b-day fic so I will try to do daily updates. And don’t forget to wish carlyisnot a happy birthday
Emily looked at the interrogation room and felt like she couldn’t breathe. It had been almost 11 years since she had seen her but what was happening to her was to be expected. Her life was too perfect, and she knew this was coming. That this wouldn’t be self-contained, it was impossible. And no matter how this turned out, it would still ruin her current life, a life that had just recently become better. She had been with one press liaison off and on for almost 2 years and it had finally become steady, after several issues and concerns from JJ and mostly herself, they had finally gotten to a place where they were happy. It was too perfect and she knew it. Now it made sense why.
‘It’s not right, why now? Why?’ Emily thought as she turned away from the room in front of her. She knew how this would play out, or at least she had gone over all the scenarios, and all of them ended badly. 11 years was a long time but not long enough. She knew, the woman knew about her but now it was just too much. It was one thing when it was happening over 5,000 miles away, but now it was here. Right in her grasp, and she had no excuse to reach out, and hold on. The woman in the other room deserved more than that, but Emily never felt she should or even could. The last conversation they had, she all but told her to fuck off. ‘Actually…’ Emily said before her line of thought was interrupt by a loud noise from the interrogation room.
“I get a phone call! Hey… hello!! I get a fucking phone call!! I need to make a call, NOW!! Give me my phone call, goddamnit I know my rights!! Where is my phone call, you bastards!!!” She screamed from the other room. The woman was clearly high and crashing fast. Emily looked away, ‘What have I done?’
Emily finally heard the door open and the sheriff came in and told her it was time. He didn’t seem too happy, but she knew Hotch had pulled strings for her, and she would never be able to repay him for that, or keeping this a secret for now. She had no idea what to do about this, or… her. But she knew this would break her life as she knew it. She took a breath in, trying not to show her emotional connection to this. She needed to be cold, and in any case, it would take minutes for them to figure it out anyway. “Thank you sheriff,” Emily said as she tried to seem as grateful and professional as possible. She stood outside the door for a few seconds before she turned the door handle and opened the door to the small and crowd interrogation room. She had been to small police stations, but this was ridiculous.
“It is about godamn time, what the f… No. NO!!! I want my lawyer now, I don’t want to talk to you. No godamnit, NO!” She said as she saw who came into the room. It had been 11 years since she had last seen her and she had no want to see her. ‘Not now, please. Not now.’ She thought as she saw the one person she wasn’t even close to wanting to see yet sit across from her.
“Hello Carlina.” Emily said to the woman… the daughter she had to leave in someone else’s care over 21 years ago. Her eyes couldn’t hide the sadness that filled her eyes.
“Why are you here? You can’t be here you will ruin everything. You don’t know you can’t… you will ruin EVERYTHING!” She screamed, knowing how much she had sacrificed for this, and now the one person she didn’t want to see yet could make everything she has done worthless. She had no idea how she found her, but this would not only make things complicated but also put her in more danger than she already was. And not just her, she lifted her green eyes to meet brown eyes. She knew she looked similar to her mother, but the resemblance was striking, the only difference was her eyes, she never met him but she knew they were her fathers.
Emily looked at the young girl in front of her, she had no idea what had happened, but she would fix this, she had to. She needed to do something right for once in her life, and she would risk everything to do just that. She would burn every last bridge she had to save her. In the back of her mind Emily felt herself collapse and breakdown completely, because she knew this would destroy any relationship she could ever have with JJ. She blinked and for a millisecond she imagined everything was normal and that her daughter wasn’t a drug addict. But nothing that good ever lasts. As she opened her eyes she knew reality would hurt like hell, and the worst was yet to come.
“Guard.” Emily said as she waited for them to open the door. As the sheriff opened the door slowly, his anger was clearly written all over his face, she had pulled the one card the police always hated: jurisdiction. “I need the prisoner prepped and ready for transport to Quantico.” Emily said as she had been able to pull herself together long enough to still be a cold yet profession FBI agent.
