There was always something heavy in her heart.
It grew when her parents scolded her, tossing out disapproving glances and cutting words.
It got bigger when Gus disappeared, leaving her to mend a heart and raise a child.
She could ignore it sometimes, shove it aside and try to break it down.
Pebbles of want, shards of disappointment - all of them tumbling in her soul and forming a yolk around her neck.
God was the only one who listened, never-tiring ears up on high, there to comfort a girl trapped in the world of a woman.
And Natalia didn't see anything ever changing.
Even when she found Gus, she had to ruin someones life to get him back.
Even when she got the guy, she lost him to pavement and bloody wounds.
Even when she had him, she lost him to another, all over again.
Eye for an eye. Tooth for a tooth. Natalia kept paying a price for sins old and new.
But she looks up suddenly, in a church full of people, into the eyes of Frank Cooper.
She looks up and the chain snaps, resounding in her head like a gun going off.
The stone cracks and splits inside her body, falling apart under the final weight.
The camel and the straw is now - Natalia cannot haul anymore pain.
She looks up, to God and the sky, asking for a chance for something more.
Something better. Something worth while. Something beautiful and real and hers.
And all that is left is dust of another life, the one that Natalia carried on her back for years and years, as she runs from this wedding.
Each step shatters another hard center within, finally letting in the fresh air.
Each beat is filled with shaky confidence, she feels no need to pretend, not anymore.
It's not perfect.
But it is honest.
And Natalia asks God for everything, for patience and forgiveness, for love and Olivia.
