Rating: PG-13 to start, for violence (non-sexual) and language. I am not any kind of a medical expert so if there are some glaring errors, please forgive me.
Disclaimer: I don’t own the Guiding Light characters, they belong to CBS and Proctor and Gamble.
Summary: This is set in the spring of 2009. I’ve taking some liberties with the storyline, mainly Natalia never slept with Frank, hence no engagement etc. So our girls have been just continuing forward raising Emma and getting closer to each other though they are still technically just friends, but that will change… This is a hurt/comfort story so they are headed on a rough ride.
Author’s Note: This is my first fan fiction so please be gentle. This would not have been possible if not for the persistent nudging and awesome editing of my beta/great friend croftlara. Comments are welcome.
Additional Note: Sorry for the short chapter...

Buzz sat by the side of Natalia’s bed holding her hand as Olivia’s had done just a short time ago. So far Natalia hadn’t moved, not even when the nurse came in to check on her.
Buzz loved Natalia, he cared for her like a daughter. It hurt him deeply to see her in this position. He secretly hoped that his son Frank could woo her but she didn’t seem interested. Which was too bad he thought as Frank could use a good woman like her in his life.
The sun was setting and Buzz needed to move before he cramped any further thanks to the chair he had been in for two hours, so he got up and moved to look out of the window before turning back to the woman on the bed.
“You have no idea the impact you have made Natalia. People in this town adore you. You make a difference here.” Buzz snorted. “You’ve made a huge difference with Olivia. You saved her. Everyone could see that she wanted to die after her heart transplant. But you didn’t give up, you made her live, whether she liked it or not.”
Buzz paced the room as he spoke. “Good Lord, she moved to the country and lives in a farmhouse. That’s not the Olivia I thought I knew. She’s kinder, softer and more generous. That’s all your influence Natalia. I hope you know that. I can see that Olivia needs you, so does Emma and you know, of course Rafe… I’m sorry he can’t be here.”
Buzz approached the bed, “We need you Natalia. Just be okay.” He took her other hand, bent down and kissed her forehead.
The action made Natalia stir. Her eyes opened though they couldn’t seem to focus.
“Natalia? Can you hear me?”
“Olivia?” Natalia croaked, her throat still sore from the tube.
“It’s Buzz. I’m right here, don’t try to talk, your throat is probably still pretty raw.”
Natalia’s forehead creased.
“Are you in pain?”
Natalia shook her head. Where did Olivia go? Natalia made a ‘writing’ motion with her hand so that Buzz would get her the paper and pen.
“You want to write something?”
Buzz grabbed the pen and paper from the table and handed it to Natalia. He stood over her and watched as she scribbled two names. Olivia. Emma.
He looked down at her, “They’re fine. Emma is with Jane. Olivia left a little while ago to go see her.” He didn’t want to worry Natalia by telling her that he had to encourage Olivia to get her to leave to take a shower and see Emma.
Buzz noticed that Natalia visibly relaxed after finding out that both Emma and Olivia were alright.
“Is there anything you need? The nurse said you could sip some water now, would you like some?”
Natalia nodded. Buzz poured Natalia some water into a cup from the jug that the nurse had left then held it while Natalia slowly sipped from the straw.
Natalia managed three sips before shaking her head to tell Buzz she had had enough.
Buzz set the cup down while Natalia picked up the pen and paper again and wrote; what happened?
“What do you remember?” Best to leave off from what she knew already.
Snippets of memory had started to come back but she couldn’t put it all together quite yet. More and more memories surfaced while she wrote. Watching a movie with Emma and Olivia. Gunmen. Brothers. He hit Olivia and threw Emma…
Buzz watched what she was writing. He had not been told all of the details and he didn’t know that Olivia had been hit but he had noticed a reddening bump on the side of her head, he certainly didn’t know that someone had thrown Emma.
Gun. Pain. Olivia’s voice, hands. Then I don’t know.
“You know you were shot?” He refused to tell her she had shot someone in case she didn’t remember those details yet.
“Emma called the police.”
Natalia smiled and wrote. Good girl.
Buzz couldn’t help but agree, “Yes she is. The paramedics came and brought you here. You had a rough time in surgery, they had to take you back in a second time because of internal bleeding.” Buzz took Natalia’s hand and added, “But you’re going to be just fine.”
Natalia nodded again and put the pen down. She had remembered more than she let on but wasn’t ready to talk about that yet until she had had more time to consider what she was seeing.
Natalia found writing tiring so she thought she would try out her voice again. She cleared it twice before speaking, “How’s Rafe?”
“Frank’s been updating him all night and went to see him this morning. Olivia called Father Ray and asked him to stay with him last night. As far as I know, the Father stayed with Rafe for some time. He wasn’t alone Natalia.”
Natalia’s eyes filled with tears as she sent a silent prayer of thanks to Father Ray, Frank and Olivia for taking care of her boy.
“Natalia would you like me to call Father Ray and ask him to come by?”
“Yes. But maybe tomorrow, I don’t know how much longer I’m going to be awake and,” She hesitated as her voice started to crack and her throat hurt but she continued, “you said Olivia’s coming back tonight, right?”
“I’m sure a team of wild horses couldn’t keep her away.”
Natalia smiled and her eyes involuntarily closed. She wanted to stay awake to see Olivia but the drugs were making her so tired.
Buzz could see the talking had been too much and Natalia was fading, though he sensed the young woman wanted to wait for Olivia. “Why don’t you just close your eyes, have a little nap and I’m sure when Olivia gets back you’ll be ready and rearing to go for a little talk.”
“I love you Natalia. Sleep well. If you need anything, I’ll be here until Olivia gets back.”
Her eyes were already closed but she still smiled slightly. I need to see her. I have to know that she’s okay and that what I’m remembering is real because I think I killed somebody. To be continued...
