Title: Movie Night
Rating: PG-13 to start, for violence (non-sexual) and language. I am not any kind of a medical expert so if there are some glaring errors, please forgive me.
Disclaimer: I don’t own the Guiding Light characters, they belong to CBS and Proctor and Gamble.
Summary: This is set in the spring of 2009. I’ve taking some liberties with the storyline, mainly Natalia never slept with Frank, hence no engagement etc. So our girls have been just continuing forward raising Emma and getting closer to each other though they are still technically just friends, but that will change… This is a hurt/comfort story so they are headed on a rough ride.
Author’s Note: This is my first fan fiction so please be gentle. This would not have been possible if not for the persistent nudging and awesome editing of my beta/great friend croftlara. Comments are welcome.

The ride back to Cross Creek was a quiet one. Still embarrassed from the night before Olivia really didn’t know what to say but as they approached the cabin she finally broke the silence.
“Jeffrey did you tell Rick about this?”
Jeffrey spared a quick glance to his passenger. “I was worried Olivia, I didn’t know if I should have taken you to the hospital so yes, I called him.”
“He just wants to see you this morning and run some tests. He was going to do that anyway,” Jeffrey stated reasonably.
“Yeah but now he thinks I’m nuts. He’ll probably commit me to Ravenwood or something.” I’m not going back there.
“Don’t be silly Olivia, he’s not going to put you in mental institution for having a nightmare while concussed enough to become confused.”
“So just Cedars then.” Why do I feel like I’ve been caught doing something wrong and now I’m going to be punished?
Confused by how worried she was about what Rick was going to do, Jeffrey tried to calm her down. “Olivia, I really don’t think you have to worry. He’s probably just going to do his tests then maybe have you talk to a psychiatrist.”
“Oh God,” Olivia groaned.
“Would it be so bad to tell someone how you’re feeling?” Jeffrey asked as he navigated the last turn to the cabin.
Answering honestly, Olivia responded, “I just don’t know what I’d say.” I’m so confused about a lot of things right now I just don’t know where I’d start, I just wish I hadn’t frightened Emma and Natalia.
Jeffrey pulled the car into the driveway and turned it off. “Let’s go get cleaned up, then I’ll drop you off with Rick and go to work. ‘Kay?”
Lost in her own thoughts she absently responded, “Yeah, sure whatever.”
Their stay at the cabin was a short one. They entered the front door to find Reva standing in the kitchen with a mug of coffee in her hand and a look of concern mixed with anger on her face. Looks like a rough night. Well I’m sorry she had a bad night but I can’t say mine was much better, I sat up half the night waiting for you and my husband to return!
Olivia walked up to Reva but not knowing what to say simply offered, “I’m sorry. I can’t tell you just how sorry I am.”
Shit, I was hoping I could at least yell at her a bit, she’s not making this easy. Reva let Olivia off the hook with a nod of acceptance to her sincere apology.
Olivia left Reva and Jeffrey and went to get ready for the day.
“So what happened? And why the hell didn’t you call me?” Reva asked after Olivia was safely out of hearing distance.
“I’m sorry for not calling, I thought you’d go back to sleep and I didn’t want to wake you. She scared the hell out of Emma but boy that kid, I tell ya she is one trooper. After calming her down she told me I should have sung to Olivia and then she went and did just that. She’s some kid. Anyway, Olivia stayed with her all night and I sat in the room making sure nothing happened. I don’t think Olivia closed her eyes again all night.”
Reva let out a breath, “What can we do?”
“I don’t know,” Jeffrey answered honestly. “I think we just have to watch her and be there for her.”
Reva nodded, “Okay. Is she going to see a doctor?”
“Yes, I didn’t know what to do so I called Rick.”
“And yet you didn’t call me,” Reva said with a hint of a smile, “Well hopefully he can do something for her. Do you have time for breakfast?”
“No, I’ve got to get going, I have a meeting this morning and I need to make sure Olivia gets in to see Rick.” With a quick kiss, Jeffrey went to get dressed and cleaned up for the day.
A short time later both Olivia and Jeffrey were back in the car and on their way to the hospital.
The drive felt long to Olivia but not long enough, as much as she wanted to see Natalia she dreaded the feeling that she could be angry with her for having called so late or that she might want her to go into greater detail than she was comfortable with. Olivia was shifting her in seat for the umpteenth time until finally Jeffrey could take it no longer.
“Olivia, do you need to use the bathroom or something?”
Jeffrey delved further, “So what’s wrong? You still worried that Rick is going to admit you?”
With a sigh Olivia answered, “Yes, but more than that that, I’m worried what Natalia thinks of me after last night.”
Shaking his head as he navigated the turn into the hospital parking garage, Jeffrey offered, “Natalia loves you, she’s just going to be worried.”
“Well that’s part of it, isn’t it? I don’t want her to worry.”
Pulling into a parking space Jeffrey shut off the car and turned to his passenger, “She’s going to worry about you, just as you worry about her. Just be honest with her, she’s your best friend, if you can’t trust her with the truth, who can you trust?”
Olivia watched him for a long moment and tried to smile. I can’t burden her; she has enough on her plate.
Assuming the conversation was over, Jeffrey opened his door and got out of the car before coming around to the passenger side and helping Olivia out.
Frank had been awake for some time keeping vigil over Natalia. He expected she had been more upset by Olivia’s call than she had let on so he took it upon himself to watch over her and keep her safe.
Nurses had come and gone through the night checking vitals and changing her IV bag, she had slept through most of it but now that the sun was well up she awoke, blinking the sleep out of her eyes, she then yawned and realized she wasn’t alone in the room.
“Frank? You’re still here?”
“I just wanted to make sure you got through the night okay.”
“Oh, thank you.” You’ve been watching me sleep all night haven’t you? Why is it creepy when you do it and not when Olivia does?
“You’re welcome. The nurse was in a little while ago, she said Lillian will be in shortly and your doctor is going to come in to check how the incision is healing.”
“Any news about Olivia?”
Shaking his head Frank answered, “No, nothing but I’m sure she’ll be here soon. I can stay if you like until she does.”
“You must need to get ready for work; I don’t want to hold you up. Thank you for staying though.”
Frank realized that was his cue to leave so he stood and leaned over the bed to kiss Natalia on the forehead. “You’re very welcome. I’ll check on you later, is there anything you’d like me to bring you?”
Just Olivia, safe and happy. “No, I think I’m fine.”
“Okay then, I’ll see you later.”
Natalia flashed a dimpled smiled and watched him leave. Olivia where are you? Are you alright?
Jeffrey and Olivia walked to Rick’s office with a few words between them. When they got there, Rick’s nurse set them up in a little exam room and let them know Rick would be there shortly.
It didn’t take long until the door opened and Rick came rushing in, “Sorry for the wait guys, just a little emergency.”
Jeffrey inquired, “Is everything okay?”
“Oh yeah, this new nurse, she was actually digging on my flirty groove.”
Jeffrey chuckled while Olivia groaned and rolled her eyes, “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
Both men turned to a very unimpressed Olivia. “I have places to be, if you boys don’t mind just giving me my lecture so I can go and see Natalia.”
Rick walked over to her, “I’m not going to lecture you, I just want to do some tests to make sure you’re thinking okay, then we can talk about some things and get you on your way.”
Jeffrey waited until Rick was finished speaking before addressing the doctor and patient, “I should really get to work, unless either of you need me?”
Olivia shook her head while Rick said, “No, I think we’re okay, thanks for bringing her in.”
“You’re welcome.” Jeffrey turned to Olivia, “If you need me to come and get you sooner just call or Reva is at home. Otherwise I’ll come to Natalia’s room to collect you, it’ll be around five.”
“’Kay. Thanks Jeffrey.”
“Anytime.” Jeffrey leaned in to kiss Olivia’s cheek. “Bye guys.” With that Jeffrey left Olivia in Rick’s capable hands.
“Alright Olivia why don’t you come have a seat, I just have a few tests.”
Rick administered several cognitive tests along with a quick physical exam. Olivia’s memory seemed to be adequate as was her speech and reasoning ability. He shone his penlight into her eyes and checked her heart and finally asked about her headache. Before Olivia answered he could already tell that it was still with her.
”Yeah my head still hurts, though not quite as bad. I did eat a bit last night and this morning, I think that may have helped.”
“Good, that’s great. I still think you should keep taking the Tylenol. Otherwise physically I think you’re improving.”
Olivia was pleased but knew that couldn’t be it.
“I want to talk about last night.”
Here is comes.
“What happened?” Rick asked concerned about her mental state.
“I’m sure Jeffrey filled you in.”
“I want to hear what you experienced and don’t leave anything out.” Adding the last bit because he knew Olivia well enough to know she would try to rush her explanation just to get out of his office that much sooner.
Olivia got up and walked over by the shuttered window, “I…I had a nightmare.”
Rick waited for her to continue.
Exasperated by the unasked question on her doctor’s face, “Yes, I’ve had it before and it just keeps getting worse and worse. I can’t make it stop and every time I have the dream it stays with me longer.”
Brow creased, Rick asked, “What do you mean it stays with you longer?”
“I know I’m awake and part of me knows it was a dream but I still see it and feel it as though it were real.”
“What happens in your dream? What sent you racing to see Emma and having to call Natalia in the middle of the night?”
Olivia sighed long and considered whether it would benefit her to actually tell him the horror of her dream or just brush it off. He’s going to press me until I spill anyway, I just want to get to Natalia faster. “Well…I know it’s based on what happened, of course it is, Danny and Brian are there and they have guns. They come upon my family playing at the farm, Emma, Ava, Natalia and Rafe and what do I do? I just sit there on the bench at the house screaming but incapable of moving and saving them.”
“You see them shot and killed.” It was more of a statement than a question.
“I see Natalia shot and Rafe, then they turn on my girls. It doesn’t matter that I don’t see them hurt, I know that’s what’s next.” Olivia wiped away an errant tear. “I know it’s a dream but it’s just so real to me… I wake up and it feels like it’s still with me and it takes time for me to remember that it’s not real.” Clearly getting upset, Olivia was unable to stop herself, she just needed to tell someone how she felt. “I’m afraid to go to sleep. When I was in bed with Emma last night I fought to stay awake so I didn’t slip into my Dr. Jekyll /Mr. Hyde act.”
Seeing Olivia getting worked up, Rick went over and put his hand on her shoulder, he now understood this complex woman’s behaviour over the last few days just a little more.
“It’s natural that your unconscious mind is still trying to work though everything that happened. The dream will go away in time. You may not like this but the more you talk about it the faster you’ll resolve what your mind is trying to sort through on its own.”
“Therapy,” Olivia breathed like it was a bad word, “You’re not committing me to Ravenwood Rick.”
“What? Olivia I have no intention of doing that, I want you to see one of the psychiatrists in the hospital here.” Ravenwood, why would she assume that?
“I’ll think about it.”
“Olivia,” Rick warned.
“I just don’t see how talking about it over and over will help! Can’t you just give me sleeping pills or something?”
“First, it will help to talk about it. If you don’t want to see a psychiatrist, then talk to Jeffrey or Natalia.”
At the mention of Natalia’s name, Olivia snorted, “I can’t tell her these things, I won’t put that on her.”
“Fine but again, Jeffrey or Josh, Father Ray? You have tons of people you can talk to, or we can sit down and talk more about this any time you need to.”
Olivia nodded. You don’t get it; I don’t want to think about it much less talk about it all the time! It scares the shit out of me.
“Oh and second, I can’t give you sleeping pills, you still have a concussion.”
Olivia pinched the bridge of her nose; she had had about as much doctoring as she could stand for now, not to mention sharing, the last thing she had planned to do was spill her dream. “Are we done Rick?”
“I want to see you the day after tomorrow unless you need me sooner.” Olivia started for the door while Rick continued, “If you need to talk, you know you can call me day or night.”
As Olivia walked by Rick to get to the door she avoided his gaze and mumbled, “Thanks, see ya then.”
To Olivia’s back Rick shook his head and quietly said, “You’re welcome, a pleasure as usual.”
